Christmas is just over. Many of us are thinking of 2009 now. Will next year be approached by many with optimism? With the financial downturn, many are feeling anxious, a little shaky, fearful, unhappy, depress or nervous as 2009 approaches. With a wave of negative signs gathering, can we really look to 2009 with optimism?
Over the past few months many are talking about the gloom and doom in days ahead. Guess, it’s only natural when you hear of companies shutting down, friends losing job, pay-cuts and news of recession. Yes, it’s true that many will face difficulties in 2009.
Like everyone, I do think of what 2009 will behold for my business and family in terms of financial budgets amongst many other things. But, I was very encouraged by Ps. Cheng Kin’s message in Church this morning. She shared on Hebrews 10:35 and to me that is the key all of us need to hold on which will enable us to look not only to the New Year but always with OPTIMISM. I do see the need for myself now at least, after hearing her message, to commit to memory and be reminded always of Hebrews 10:35 in my walk as a Christian.
Hebrews 10:35 says, “So don't throw away your confidence, which has a great reward”
Continuing in verse 36, it reads, “For you need endurance, so that after you have done God's will, you may receive what was promised”.
Amidst our handling of problems, issues and situations, we often forget or realise that God is there wanting us to do His way and not doing things outside His plan for us. God needs to be in everything we do, if we want to be happy, contented and fulfilled.
As Christians we confess that our faith is composed of more than what our own eyes see. His Grace is more than we can ever understand. Grace is what God offers us and for us faith is our choice. We have the choice on what to do with God’s grace. Our faith rests upon our trust that there is a God who loves and watches us always. That God is just and good and worthy to be served.
Let us base our faith and expectations in God and His will for our lives. Let us look to God for answers and his guidance as we move on with 2009. Remain faithful to God in DOING what God says to do. So don’t throw away your confidence in Christ. He is our living God. He is there always with us and for us. Just be humble enough to receive His love and help - do it His way, not our way.
Don't let circumstances shake our faith in Jesus. We need to be confident in God and His Word. In whatever situations we are in, we need to hold on to God and His Word always. Ps. Cheng Kin said .... as we look to the year ahead don't give up, let us not abandon the hope in Christ and not lose that focus. How apt.
We need endurance in our walk as Christians ... so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the reward (promise). With our Lord Jesus Christ holding the helm, let us have an optimistic 2009. It is possible.
A Blessed New Year to everyone.
